Dear Constituent,

I am running in the forthcoming local elections as the new Green Party / Comhaontas Ghlas Candidate for Cork City Council, Cork South East Ward. I have been an involved member of the Green Party / Comhaontas Ghlas since 2005.  In this time

  • I was National Chair of the youth wing of the Green Party (The Young Greens / Óige Ghlas) 2007/2008 with over 1,000 members (both north and south)
  • I have organized an international youth conference on the subject of food with over 50 participants from ten different EU countries.
  • I have also been actively involved at a local level promoting politics among young people since joining the Green Party in 2005

 

My priorities for City Council are:

 

  • Decision Making at the Lowest effective Level

Grant more powers to local authorities so that constituents, through their local councillor, can have a greater input into decisions that will affect them directly

  • Planning

Open and transparent planning which leads to sustainable communities.

  • Greater Care for the Vulnerable in our Society

A greater community outreach and care to the elderly and vulnerable in our society

  • Green New Jobs

Going green saves money and creates jobs. Just this week the ESB announced 3,700 green, Irish and sustainable jobs

  • Energy

Encouraging micro-generation of electricity at a household level.  Investing in local power generation e.g Kinsale Road landfill methane capture which powers almost 4% of the city’s domestic electricity demand.

  • Waste Management

The introduction of “brown bin” (compost) collection which is already available in Galway and Dublin.
